Tiers, cashback, referral links and seasonal challenges — what actually keeps restaurant guests coming back and how to measure the ROI of each mechanic.
Why you need a loyalty program
Acquiring a new guest costs 5–7× more than keeping an existing one. That holds for any business, but in restaurants seasonality amplifies it: guests are in the parks in summer and at home in winter, so losing a customer can cost you 6 months of silence.
A loyalty program turns a one-off order into a system of repeat sales and keeps the guest inside your ecosystem.
What works in Uzbekistan
- 5–10% cashback to a bonus balance that can be spent on the next order. It beats a discount because it doesn’t hit your margin upfront.
- Bronze / Silver / Gold tiers based on total spend over 6 months. Gold gets higher cashback and free delivery.
- Referral link: a guest invites a friend → the friend gets 30,000 UZS, and the guest gets 30,000 UZS in their account.
- Birthdays: a week before, a push saying “Dessert’s on us.” On the day itself, a special offer.
- Challenges: “5 orders in a month = free plov.” Used by chayhanas to boost order frequency.
What to avoid
- Don’t use discounts as the mechanism — they eat into margin and don’t teach guests to come back (they’ll just wait for the next discount).
- Don’t confuse a loyalty program with a promotion. A promotion is one-off; a program is for good.
- Don’t overcomplicate the math. Guests should understand how bonuses work in 5 seconds: “10% back to your account.”
- Don’t forget personalization: the same push to 10,000 people performs 4× worse than a segmented one.
The impact
Case: a pizzeria in Samarkand. Launching a tiered program delivered +24% LTV in one quarter, the share of returning guests grew from 38% to 56%, and the average check at Gold tier is 19% above baseline.
Case: a coffee chain in Tashkent. The referral program brought in 1,100 new guests in 2 months, at an acquisition cost 3× lower than Instagram ads.
